Regional weather
Umbria’s climate varies greatly due to the differences in altitude. On the flat and in the hilly areas the climate is sub littoral or mild Mediterranean with a dry summer period, whilst in mountain area zones the temperature is more continental. In terms of tourism, it is difficult to give advice on which is the best period to visit Umbria, as this region offers attractions all year round. For cycling tourism however, there are two preferred periods, the first spring and early summer and the second being autumn until mid November. Also, Umbria offers many spectacular lakes, such as “Lago Trasimeno”, the third biggest lake in Italy, which are ideal for cycling during in the summer.
